A beautifully made and colourful leather ledger dating to the 1930's. This gorgeous green book has marbled page edges and inside covers. The spine is embossed in gold with the name "Robert Christie Bequest Fund" a grant-making body in Edinburgh (that still exists) that financially supports local people over the age of 60. The ledger records in hand-written copperplate writing how much was paid monthly to each individual over a period from 1938 - 1943. The maker's label inside the front cover is for Geo. Stewart & Co Ltd in Edinburgh. The book is a fascinating insight into social history but it's also a lovely quality decorative item.
